Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif met and talked with the President of Chile Michelle Bachelet in the capital city of Santiago on Thursday evening Tehran local time.
Zarif conveyed warm greetings of Iran’s President Rouhani to the people and government of Chile; “in line with expansion of political relations, we are also looking forwards to strengthening economic cooperation with Chile,” said the official pointing to the huge economic delegation accompanying him during the LatAm tour.
Also at the meeting, Chilean President Bachelet appreciated Zarif's visit to her country and expressed Santiago’s eagerness to reinvigorate ties with Tehran.
The official pointed to numerous experiences and capabilities held by the two sides which can be exchanged.
The two sides also discussed Middle Eastern and Latin American issues during the joint meeting.
Together with his Chilean counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif had earlier participated in the opening ceremony of a conference in Santiago to discuss Iran and Chile joint economic opportunities and held separate talks with top-ranking officials of Chile including the Chilean parliament speaker in addition to a number of senators.
The Iranian FM also held three separate meetings with his Chilean counterpart Heraldo Munoz Valenzuela and inked an agreement for Iran-Chile political cooperation.
Moreover, he participated in a news conference during his 18-hour stay in Chile.
Zarif left Santiago for La Paz in Bolivia to begin the fifth leg of his tour to six Latin American nations.
